Onomichi Akari (Light) Festival
Time : At the beginning of October every year.
2,500 lights are turned on along the approaches to shrines and in the precincts. Those lights start from the bayside of the Onomichi waterway to the middle of the 3 mountains in Onomichi.
The atmosphere of these lights assumes the olden times all nightlight.

Onomichi Chrysanthemum Exhibition
Time : At the end of October to the middle of November.
This exhibition is one of the most well known festivals in Senkoji Temple & Park. The cherry blossoms in spring and chrysanthemum in autumn.
Senkoji Temple & Park becomes a spectacular viewing place with various kinds of chrysanthemums.
You must see the very large chrysanthemum called "Ookiku" that is the size of a head, and "Kogiku Bonsai" with fascinating rooting.

Betcha Festival
Time : November 1st to 3rd every year.
Shrine parishioners who wear 3 different kinds of masks, (beta, soba and shouki) chase children around the city streets and tap them or spectators on the head or body with a holy bamboo stick.
Those people who were tapped are said to be safe from illness, to be smarter, or to have a healthy baby.
This is a day of fright for the children in this town.
